What is the Fair Housing Act?
Buyers are concerned about the communities
they're moving into and sometimes they ask me questions
that they shouldn't. Both as a REALTOR® and as a fair-minded
citizen of this world, I cannot and will not answer questions
that imply any bias based upon race, color, national origin,
religious creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, children,
ancestry, marital status, veteran history, public assistance
recipiency, or handicap (mental or physical) --- so don't
ask. If you want more information on the Fair Housing Act
based upon Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, please
follow this link to the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development website.
If you're looking for statistics about
the demographics of an area, you can go to the U.S.
Census Bureau's State and County Quick Facts page for
that information.
Another question I'm asked on occasion
is: Are there any sex offenders in this neighborhood? You
can find that out for yourself by either going to the police
station in the town you're considering moving into, or log
on to Family
Watchdog. |
